Abstract
The ProCurve Networking Adaptive EDGE Architecture
By Russell M. Cozart
Tina Angell at HP, March 26, 2005

+ The article discusses the Adaptive EDGE Architecture, as proposed by HP. The ProCurve Networking Adaptive EDGE Architecture is a philosophical approach to how networks are designed. This philosophy sees decision making capabilities being decentralized from one core administrative unit and instead moving control even closer to the networking edge. This philosophy proposes using existing Ethernet frameworks to amalgamate data, voice and video services as well as providing security and mobility but with more adaptability and accessibility. Technological products and solutions that are developed will be easily adaptable to this type of network. Networking solutions will become more user-centric rather than networkcentric. The Adaptive EDGE Architecture approach promises to be more cost effective. The ProCurve Networking Adaptive EDGE Architecture is present in devices such as intelligent edge portal routers, wireless access and control devices, in EDGE switches, interconnect switches and access and device management solutions.

+ I believe the intelligent EDGE philosophy is quite innovative and proactive. This solution could be one of the major approaches to addressing security concerns. Networking administration could be more easily facilitated when some of the functionalities and intelligence are decentralized to intelligent centers capable of making access decisions. It is in the best interest of companies to consider products that come wired based on this technology. While it does not seem now that this philosophy is guiding producers of network devices and solutions it may become more popular in the near future. Companies that are proactive will start adopting this philosophy now.
