Database Management Systems. This course is intended to
introduce students to the major concepts of modern database
management systems (DBMS). It includes extensive background on
the purposes and justification for DBMS use, selection criteria
for DBMS, database design using Entity-Relationship modeling
and normalization, implementation of client and personal DBMS,
server DBMS, client/server systems, and web-enabled DBMS, and
issues in database administration. The course focuses on DBMS from a CIS point of view, systems design
and implementation using a DBMS (as opposed to design and implementation of the DBMS software itself).
